EOTC Week

Last week Pohutukawa Syndicate started our EOTC week.  For our EOTC week we went to different places and learnt different stuff.  But the only thing that we did that wasn’t going anywhere was our sleepover!

One of the things that we learnt about was the pacifica section at Te Papa.  The teachers gave us all a sheet to fill in by the  time we left to go to Nga Taonga sound and vision.  The main thing that my group focused on was the pacifica section in the building and our worksheet, we focused on that one part because everybody in the group was either Samoan, Cook Island or Fijian and we really wanted to see  all the different kinds of pacific islanders.  One of the things on the worksheet for me was the task in the worksheet saying ‘Write down five things the pacific came to New Zealand to do to follow their dreams.  That task for me stood out because I was thinking of my grandparents and what they did and what influenced them to come to New Zealand.

During our EOTC week after we went to Te Papa and Nga Taonga sound and vision we went home and got ready for our sleepover!  The teachers said to not to come at 5:45pm if you don’t want to, so I turned up around 6:00pm and everybody was already there.  As soon as I saw my friends I dropped all my bags and ran towards them to talk but then I stopped because I thought I forgot my flashlight to play spotlight.   So I went and looked and it was still there so I just continued to talk with my friends.  As the night went on we finally got to play spotlight, but we played differently because instead of one or two people being in we played so that everybody was in.  When we all came back because the whistle was called we played another game when only two people are in.  It was a pretty bad game because we had to stop the whole game because someone said that saw a clown.  So that wasn’t really any fun but the rest of the night was.

What was really challenging for me was having to find all the information for the worksheet that we got at Te Papa because Te Papa is a very big building full of interesting stuff, so because of that it is very hard to find everything that you need.  Also another thing that was so challenging for me was trying to figure out what all the big adult words meant and where to find them.  Trying to find the exhibits and trying to complete the tasks was all so hard because some of things that we had to find was not even named on the top, and some of the exhibits wasn’t even positioned right to be under their names.  Even though all of that stuff was really hard and fun at the same time I still enjoyed it and had a great time.
